There has been something of slump in quality children’s feature films recently with only the Harry Potter series really coming to the fore.
So it is pleasing to be able to recommend this charming adaptation of E.Nesbit’s famous children’s novel.
The story is based upon the tale of a group of wartime youngsters who discover an ancient, mischievous sand fairy with all the attributes of a character from an Enid Blyton story.
The somewhat ugly and irritable sand imp, Psammead ( voiced by Sidley’s own Eddie Izzard ) grants the children a wish a day, lasting until sunset. But as they find that it becomes harder to think of good wishes they find themselves getting into all sorts of trouble.
This is an entertaining children’s feature film, perfectly timed for Easter.
