Martin Scorcese may well have been a little disappointed when this monumental dramatisation about the life of Howard Hughes failed to win the Oscar for ‘Best Picture’ (beaten by Million Dollar Baby, also released this month).
However it stands as probably his most approachable and entertaining movie since 1995’s “Casino” and won a host of awards including 5 Oscars (including Cate Blanchett for Best Supporting Actress), 4 BAFTA’S and 3 Golden Globes.
Between the 1920’s and the 1940’s billionaire Howard Hughes, superbly portrayed by Leonardo Di Caprio in possibly his best performance to date, pursued his twin passions of movie making and aviation.
However his obsessions began to take an increasing toll on his mental health. Excellent entertainment.
