Orphaned dreamer Mathilde (beautifully played by Audrey Tatou) is informed that her beloved fiancé has been court martialled and sentenced, along with four other soldiers, to a certain death in no-man’s land.
Mathilde refuses to give up hope that he will return safely and her faith sends her on an odyssey that takes her through the heartbreaking memories of World War 1.
Travelling across rural France she embarks on a mission to discover the truth about her loved one’s alleged crime and subsequent punishment.
This critically acclaimed French drama is both a love story and a war film together with a hint of humour. Tatou, the star of Amelie, is superb, as are the rest of the cast and the film enjoyed a successful UK cinema release in January. TVC RECOMMENDED
