Supposedly based upon a true story The Amityville Horror was one of the most successful chillers of the 70’s alongside the likes of The Exorcist and The Omen.
This remake is largely faithful to the original and repeats the story of a couple who purchase a dream home on Long Island for themselves and their three children.
Soon after moving in they begin to be menaced by all sorts of creepy characters, the worst sufferer being the dad, played by Ryan Reynolds, who is haunted by voices urging him to kill his family.
Philip Baker Hall puts in a thoughtful performance as Father Callaway who tries to help the family. Horror aficionados will particularly appreciate the babysitter scene and the film enjoyed a highly successful cinema release in April. UK CINEMA RELEASE
