This extremely successful comedy was originally due for release in August and was brought forward at the last minute.
American Dreamz is the biggest TV show in America, a reality game show hosted by Martin Tweed (Hugh Grant in full-on Simon Cowell mode) that is so popular that President Joe Staton, played by Dennis Quaid, is persuaded to take part in the show as a judge.
Staton is concerned about his declining ratings and thinks that by going on the show he will improve his popularity, whilst Tweed just sees the President’s appearance as a chance to boost his own ratings.
Neither is aware that one of the contestants on the show, Omer, is actually a terrorist who is determined to assassinate the President live on TV.
American Dreamz manages to poke fun at TV’s current obsession with reality TV shows and proved to be very popular when released at the cinema in April.
