Babel is a powerful drama set across four continents and weaving four separate stories together. It is not immediately apparent how the paths of an American couple travelling in Morocco are linked to the fate of a poor local family, a Mexican nanny in San Diego, USA and a Japanese teenager.
However, director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu weaves a magical spell to bring the multiple storylines together. Encompassing globalisation, immigration, terrorism and prejudice he shows his audience that pain is universal, and in doing so creates a mesmerising piece of work.
This subtle and poignant film received 7 Academy Award nominations and is a highly intelligent portrayal of the world today. TVC RECOMMENDED UK CINEMA
