When notorious outlaw Ben Wade, played by Russell Crowe, is captured, a posse is formed to take him to the town of Contention where he is to be loaded onto a train to take him to Yuma prison.
One of the posse is penniless farmer Dan Evans (Christian Bale) who is struggling to keep his farm and family together in the face of a terrible drought, rising debt and an unsympathetic landlord.
Getting Wade to the station is no easy task as they are pursued by Wade’s gang, led by Ben Foster as Wade’s lieutenant, and the posse is subjected to several brutal attacks over the three day journey.
The performances of Crowe as the vicious and ruthless killer and Bale as the hard working rancher are superb and any lover of old-fashioned quality westerns will really appreciate this film.
