DRAMA
- CERT 15 - - JAMES McAVOY KEIRA KNIGHTLEY
ROMOLA GARAI SAOIRSE RONAN
Winner of Best Drama at the Golden Globe Awards and nominated for Best Picture at both the BAFTA and Academy Awards, Atonement is the stunning drama from Director Joe Wright ( Pride And Prejudice). Adapted from the Booker Prize nominated novel by Ian McEwan, the film is set in 1935 when 13-year old Briony ( Saoirse Ronan) changes the course of several lives when she misreads the relationship between her sister Cecilia (played by Keira Knightley) and Robbie (James McAvoy), the son of the housekeeper. The three characters (with Briony now played by Romola Garai) meet again in 1940 as World War II rages around them. Cecilia and Briony are working as nurses while Robbie is part of the British forces trying to reach the evacuation point at Dunkirk. The scenes of the hell of Dunkirk are as good as Saving Private Ryan and the whole picture is a masterpiece of intelligent film-making, fully deserving of all its nominations.
