Director Michael Mann (Heat) brings to the screen the story of one of America’s most notorious gangsters, John Dillinger.
In 1930s Chicago, Dillinger (an outstanding performance by Johnny Depp) and his gang have built a reputation as local heroes, by carrying out clinical robberies on banks whilst leaving the great depression hit American public alone. Dillinger has the run of the town, and its women, with Billie (Marion Cotillard) catching his eye.
Hot on his tail though is Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale – also seen this month in Terminator: Salvation)), who the FBI has brought in to catch the notorious criminal.
Mann’s typical attention to detail and use of superb locations, together with great performances from Johnny Depp and Christian Bale, help to make this a powerhouse of a crime thriller.
